How do you ask someone's eye disorder (+/-)? Do you start with "What's your prescription?" & how to answer it?
In Indonesia it's a common question for people with glasses/contacts. We ask "minus/plus berapa?" (literally "how much is your minus/plus?") How do we ask this question in English?
Also, if I'm -3.00, how do I say it in English?

Why would you want to know what someone elses eye prescription is?

Not sure I understand the question.

Most of the time it's not really a normal social question. It's not that it's private, but sort of it is.
But if you saw that someone had on 'thick' glasses, you'd possibly ask if they were nearsighted or farsighted. And then, how much?
Most don't know.
If you were a -3.00 myope, you'd say that your prescription is a -3.00. But again, most, and that's about 99.99999999% don't know what the numbers mean. It's just not something that's learned in school or social circles unless one is really interested.

Yes I would have to agree with Paul here....typically people do not really ask what type of prescriptions others have unless they are friends or family members. If you need to ask somebody you can ask someone if they are nearsighted (meaning they have myopia or a minus prescription) or farsighted (meaning they have hyperopia or plus prescription) or "do you have a plus or minus prescription?"
It is true that many people probably have no idea what type of prescription they may have!
If you were asked.... you could answer " I am moderately myopic" or "I have myopia" or "I am nearsighted" or "I have minus prescription" or "the strength of my prescription is minus three"
Anyways that is just a few ideas for you :)

Paul and ILoveMySon are right. Here in the US, asking what someone's prescription is just out of curiosity isn't done very often...I think the only time I was asked (and didn't know the answer) was when I went to a new eye doctor and didn't take my glasses with me so he would have a starting point for making sure I had the correct prescription.
It's just not a social situation type question. We, in the US, tend to keep our physical health personal...until it is necessary to inform bosses, family members, close friends about a condition we may have. I do not even know what my mother's eye prescription is, and honestly, hadn't even thought of asking her until your question lol
If someone outside of the eye care profession were to ask me, I'd say, "I am a former moderate myope prior to my PRK, I had nearsightedness...bad" lol
