Can elevated intraocular pressure cause retinal detachment? The last time I went to see the eye doctor, he told me I have slightly elevated intraocular pressure. I don't know why, and he didn't tell me why, though I asked why many times. But it's been about one year since I've seen the eye doctor, and recently I have been seeing small "sparkles" or very small "flashes" of light.. It occurs most during the day. I can blink and there they are, but then it goes away. it all started happening early on this year, I had very powerful headaches and emotional stess followed by a migrane (VERY BAD HEADACHE!) Then the sparklies started to happen... What could this mean?
I did research on WebMD, and it said that if I see sudden flashes of light, it could be retinal detachment due to high or low amounts of vitreous humor in the eye. (I know what that is). It all comes back to intraocular pressure, doesn't it?
help! I don't want to go blind!

hey mate i have a brain tumor right now that cannot be removed. one of the biggest symptoms of a brain tumor is migranes and headaches so i suggest you might want to go see your gp just to make sure(down get to worried before you know anything though)

Have you had a dilated retinal examination done by an ophthalmologist lately? If not, then go get one done. If you are severely myopic, meaning nearsighted, then get a dilated exam done by a retina specialist because severe myopes need retina people to take a good look at their thinner than usual retinas anyway...
Severe myopia can be the root reason for a lot of eye conditions, I've discovered recently. I have elevated IOP but it's not a major concern yet, and definitely not an issue for the retina. Well, that's what the docs tell me anyway... Just get a visual field test done once a year to check for glaucoma problems. High iop levels can indicate risk of glaucoma.
IOP is a complex thing that changes every second...
Ge your dilation done to put your mind at ease. But my guess you suffer from ocular migraines.
